Langkawi has a rich diversity of ecosystems and habitat types. This includes lowland broadleaf rainforest, mangrove forest, reed beds, rice paddies, orchards, scrublands and mudflats. This therefore ensures a correspondingly rich diversity in birdlife on the island. The best time for serious birders to be in Langkawi is between November to April , during this time the resident and some of the migrant birds will be here in Langkawi.
In recent years, hotels, housings, buildings and high rise condominium being build in Langkawi.
This has reduce the wildlife habitats and the numbers of wildlife residing in Langkawi quite significantly, and in turn made wildlife spotting becomes rather challenging. Returnee Guests (Junglewalla’s Honorary) used to be able to spot between 40 to 60 species in 4 hours outing and currently we might be able to spot between 16 to 30 species in an outing. We also spot many species of birds arriving in Langkawi for the first time and that has increase the bird list of Langkawi.
