Trip Journal | Educational Outreach & Conservation
Mangrove forests are the guardians of Langkawi’s coastlines, and at JungleWalla, we believe the best way to understand their importance is through direct action. Our mangrove planting programs provide students and corporate groups with a unique opportunity to contribute to the island's ecological health while learning from our expert naturalists.
During these sessions, participants are guided into the heart of the Kilim River mangroves. Beyond the physical act of planting propagules (mangrove seedlings), the experience is an immersive lesson in natural history. Guided by senior naturalists, participants discover the fascinating world of mudskippers, monitor lizards, and the unique flora—such as the 'blind-your-eye' tree (Excoecaria agallocha)—that makes this ecosystem so resilient.
CONNECTING SCIENCE AND SERVICE
The program often concludes with a visit to the ancient limestone Bat Caves, where the focus shifts to Langkawi’s marine origins and the vital role bats play in the ecosystem. By the end of the day, participants leave not just with muddy boots, but with a profound sense of stewardship and a deeper connection to the natural world that sustains us all.
