LANGKAWI TRAVEL GUIDE — ACCESS & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Langkawi is fully open to all international and domestic travelers. The previous "Travel Bubble" restrictions and specific COVID-19 entry protocols have been rescinded. Travelers can now enjoy seamless access to the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark via air and sea gateways.

CURRENT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Visa Requirements: Most nationalities can enter Malaysia visa-free for tourism purposes for up to 30 or 90 days. Please verify your specific visa requirements with the Malaysian Embassy or through the official Imi-Visa portal.
  • Digital Arrival Card (MDAC): All international travelers are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within three days prior to arrival at the immigration checkpoint.
  • Customs: Langkawi remains a Duty-Free island. However, standard Malaysian customs regulations apply when returning to the mainland or departing for international destinations.

GETTING TO LANGKAWI

Langkawi International Airport (LGK) and the main ferry terminals serve as the primary conduits to the archipelago.

  • By Air: Direct flights connect Langkawi to Kuala Lumpur (KUL/SZB), Penang (PEN), Singapore (SIN), and seasonal regional hubs. Major carriers include Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Firefly, and Scoot.
  • By Sea: Regular high-speed ferry services operate from the mainland ports of Kuala Perlis (approx. 1 hour 15 mins) and Kuala Kedah (approx. 1 hour 45 mins). Ferries also connect Langkawi to Koh Lipe, Thailand (seasonal).

PLANNING YOUR NATURE EXPEDITION

To ensure the best experience within the Geopark, we recommend the following:

  • Best Time to Visit: The dry season from December to April is ideal for trekking and birdwatching. The mid-season (May to October) offers lush green landscapes and fewer crowds, with intermittent rainfall.
  • Sustainable Travel: As a UNESCO Global Geopark, we encourage visitors to use licensed naturalists for forest and mangrove explorations to ensure minimal environmental impact and high educational value.
