FLYING WONDERS OF PARADISE — THE MAKING OF A LEGEND
Between 2007 and 2009, JungleWalla had the privilege of collaborating on a groundbreaking nature documentary titled "Flying Wonders of Paradise." This project was a major joint effort involving the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Media Seed Production House, focusing on the extraordinary gliding animals that call Langkawi home. The documentary aimed to capture the elusive life of the Sunda Flying Lemur, or Colugo, using specialized equipment to document their graceful glides through the rainforest canopy. This collaboration allowed us to gather invaluable data on their behavior, gliding patterns, and social structures within the Langkawi ecosystem. The Engineering of a Glider
The star of the documentary, the Colugo, is a biological marvel. It possesses a patagium—a fur-covered skin membrane that extends from its face to the tips of its fingers, toes, and tail. This unique "wing" allows the Colugo to glide over distances exceeding 100 meters, moving silently through the night sky to find the best young leaves and shoots to eat. While the full-length feature film from this era is now a rare archival gem, the knowledge gained during its production continues to inform our tours today. It remains a proud chapter in JungleWalla’s history of contributing to global wildlife education and media.SEE THE GLIDERS FOR YOURSELF
