FOREST TRUMP — THE BRIGADIER’S RECOMMENDATION

Media Archive | Featuring the Langkawi Archipelago (2003)

In February 2003, travel writer Steven Cole documented his journey to one of Malaysia’s most storied landscapes in a feature titled "Forest Trump." The narrative began with a recommendation from a brigadier—a testament to Langkawi's reputation as a destination for those who appreciate the finer, wilder side of the world.

A Wilderness of 100 Islands:
Cole’s writing introduced readers to the Langkawi archipelago: a group of more than 100 mainly uninhabited islands off the northwestern coast of the Malaysian peninsula. At that time, much of the archipelago remained an untouched frontier, offering a sanctuary for biodiversity and a playground for those looking to escape the conventional tourist trail. The "nature theme" that Cole explored remains the very heart of the Langkawi experience today.

The JungleWalla Connection:
While the archipelago has grown in popularity, the essence of the "Forest Trump" story—finding magic in the uninhabited and the wild—is exactly what we preserve at JungleWalla. We continue the tradition of guiding modern-day explorers through these ancient rainforests and rugged coastlines, providing the professional insight that turns a simple visit into a profound connection with nature.

Decades after Cole’s visit, the brigadier’s smile remains justified. Langkawi continues to be a crown jewel of Asian natural history, and we are proud to be its primary storytellers.
