LANGKAWI FROM EAGLE EYES VIEW — THE PEAK OF MOUNT RAYA

Landscape & Wildlife | Peak Observation

To truly appreciate the scale of the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, one must head to the summit of Gunung Raya. Standing at 881 meters, it is the highest peak on the island. From here, you get a literal "eagle eyes view" of the entire archipelago, stretching across the Andaman Sea all the way to the coast of Thailand on a clear day. The journey to the top is just as rewarding as the view. The road winds through dense dipterocarp forest, but since we observe from the forest edge and roadside, it is a comfortable experience for all nature lovers. This elevation provides a unique opportunity to see birds of prey, such as the Mountain Hawk-Eagle and the White-bellied Sea Eagle, soaring at eye level.

A Sanctuary for High-Altitude Wildlife

Because the temperature is slightly cooler at the summit, the flora and fauna differ from the lowland forests. It is a prime spot for observing Great Hornbills as they fly between fruiting trees, and if you are lucky, you might spot the elusive Dusky Leaf Monkeys foraging along the roadside trees. Whether it's the misty mornings or the golden sunsets, Gunung Raya remains the crown jewel of Langkawi’s natural landscape.
